Mug Rugs for Christmas Presents

I made two sets of mug rugs as Christmas presents last year for our new friends here in Waldport.  They are marine themed, but all different.  These "mini quilts" are quick and a blast to make!

Here are the ones I made for Mike and Pam:

Carol Doak Yahoo Group Block: One Sunny Day

I am posting this as a reminder to myself to finish this mini quilt.  It is paper pieced and measures about 16" square with the border.  I plan to cut the border down to 1" and to add a more interesting fabric as a second border.  I figure that will be easier than unstitching it!   Then I will quilt it in Free Motion and finish it as a wall hanging.

Carol Doak Royal Mini Quilt Challenge

This was a mini quilt challenge on Carol's Yahoo Group.  I cheated on this one ; it was supposed to finish at around 12" square, but I doubled the pattern size.  It makes a very nice table topper in my living room.

It is paper pieced from batik scraps, and I quilted it in Free Motion on my Janome Horizon 7700.

Carol Doak Mystery BOM 2012 - "What's Black & White & Read All Over?"

This was Carol Doak's Mystery BOM in 2012-2013.   The patterns were shown in red and white, but I had been wanting to do a red, black and white quilt for a while, so that is what I did. The red tone on tone flowers and white (small polka dots) are mostly the same fabric throughout, but I used many different "black" fabrics.  For the back, I did some intuitive piecing to use up some of the scraps, which I learned from Angela Walters.  I quilted it in free motion with my Janome Horizon 7700 and bound it with a leopard black and white print.  I named the quilt "What's Black & White, and Read All Over?"  like the bubble gum riddle.

50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars Quilt with Border

I have added a 6" border in QAYG.   The quilting is a sampler, with the design changing every 12" or so.  I will post some close ups of that.

50 Fabulous Stars Quilt is Done!

I finished the binding today, and am putting on the label.  I have named it "Underneath the Stars"

50 Fab Stars Quilt is almost done!

I finished assembling the sections last night, and right now I'm working on the binding.

I am so glad it's done and already have my next projects lined up!

Virtual Offset Pineapple in Earth Tones

Here is the Offset Pineapples in Earth Tones.  This is more subdued, and I think these colors would be better suited for a gift I have in mind.  My friend is very much into everything "South West."  I may modify it, as I intended the whites to be more tans and the golds more intense.  Of course the colors depicted are from the fabric library in the software.  I can control the actual results from the fabrics I use.  And I am sure I have enough scraps to pull this off!

Virtual Offset Pineapple Wallhanging

I saw a photo of a gorgeous Offset Pineapple quilt made by Dee on Quilting.about.com and fell in love with the pattern and brilliant colors.   With a little help from a friend, I was able to recreate the quilt in Quilt Pro for Mac.  The original .pdf  is from Mary Ann Beattie.

I may also experiment with some more neutral colors...  but I love this one.

Carol Doak's 2012 Mystery BOM

This BOM started in May of this year.  It is a mystery, so I am just following along, not knowing what the final outcome will be...

Carol Doak's 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars

I have been working on this with a group on the Quilting Board, and we are
doing one block per week.

Here are 49 of my 50 completed blocks, shown as a virtual quilt designed in

Quilt Pro 5 for Mac. The virtual quilt shows photos of the actual blocks.

I will QAYG in large sections using 3/4" sashing, with FMQ in each section.

Below is the 50th and final star, Wyoming.

Quilting Board 2011 Houses BOM ("Gimme Shelter") finished!

I finished the 12 blocks with the Quilting Board group, replacing a few with others I had chosen from various books and websites.  I then decided the quilt needed to be larger than what the twelve 12" blocks would yield.   I made "sashing" from other paper pieced blocks, to arrive at 90" x 90".

I showed it last week at the Sierra Quilt Guild Show in Sonora.
